-Scan and remove any adware or spyware on the computer
    -add more RAM
    -defrag hard drive
-close other applications when surfing the web (including the ones that show up on your taskbar)
-you might want to start fresh each time and clear out your cookies and cache incase you have old info cached

Delete unwanted programs, free up RAM, if you use XP press Ctrl+Alt+Del, this takes you to Windows Task Manager, if there are alot of process, and use alot of memory, that might slow down browsing speed. If worst comes to worst, you might need to invest in a memory upgrade or a new computer

Here are the things I do to me and my client’s computers. . . . .

Click >START> >RUN> type in msconfig then click startup and uncheck all the programs that you do not need. This will help your computer startup quicker and you will have more system resources to run your computer.

Also install spyware blaster. It is free. This will block spywere before it comes onto your computer. Make sure you updated it often (once or twice a week).

Also install AVG anti-virus. It is free virus protection program. You will also need to update it often (once or twice a week).

You can also install Ad-Aware SE which will delete the spyware from your computer. The Spyware blaster helps prevent it from coming on the computer to begin with and it has worked well on mine. A link to these programs are below.

If you already have an anti-virus program then you do not need AVG. If you do but do not want to pay for Norton or McAfee when it renews then get AVG. It’s free and works just as well if not better.

If you have dialup and want to increase web browsing then I would get an internet service that has a web browser accelerator program. You can get the web browser accelerator software without using them as an isp for a few bucks less except for netscape which offers it including the accelerator for only $10 a month. Earthlink and AOL has it as well but its over $20 a month. NetZero has the service as well. It will speed up web browsing 5-10 times faster and believe me it DOES work. I have used it on mine for a few years now and it makes a BIG difference in web browsing speeds.

If you have dial up then in internet settings disable sounds, animation, and pictures, when you get to a web site that has a picture you want to see right click the X then click show picture. you can also try adding more RAM,do a disk clean up, defrafment the hard drive, Also clean up all the crap on your computer by downloading the free proghahm Crap Cleaner http://www. ccleaner. com/update/?v=1. 26. 218&l=1033

Also one of the best things you can do it to change the menushowdelay.

    This setting controls the pc’s pause’s .

    Click start – run , type ” regedit ”

Climb down the tree by browsing through HKEY-CURRENT-USER , Control Pannel , Desktop .

Then change the data key that displays menushowdelay to ” 0 ” . if you dont have the key then create one.

you can go to a website called techrepublic. com they have forums where people ask questions just like you but it is only for computer help. many people have asked the same quesion that you have and they have been answered there. you need to register for the site, but it is free. you can also go to zdnet. com where there is alot of computer advice and free downloads you can use to check your os (operating system) and to help speed up your pc. one of the best thing you can do is get more memory in your pc, and those sites can tell you how to do it, or if you go to a store that sells computers and tell them what kind of computer you have, they can tell what you need to buy. you can look for what you need on ebay, where the prices are very reasonable, but know what you are looking for! your computer manufacturer’s website can tell you, too. if you have dial up internet, you may want to look into cable or dsl. they are very fast.
